Plastics Angle Tear Performance Test Method
1 Theme Content and Applicable Scope
This Standard specifies the test method for the right-angle tear performance of plastic
films and sheets.
This Standard is applicable to plastic films, sheets and other similar plastic materials.

3 Principle
Apply a tensile load to the standard specimen to make the specimen tear at the right-
angle mouth; and measure the tear load or tear strength of the specimen.
4 Test Apparatus
4.1 A tensile testing machine that meets the requirements of GB 1040 and can meet
the requirements of test speed.
4.2 A thickness measuring instrument that meets the requirements of GB 6672.
5 Specimen
5.1 The shape and size of the specimen are shown in the following Figure:
8 Representation of the Results
8.1 Take the maximum load value during the tearing process of the specimen as the
right-angle tearing load, in N.
8.2 The right-angle tear strength is calculated as follows:
Where:
σtr – right-angle tear strength, in kN/m;
P – tearing load, in N;
d – thickness of specimen, in mm.
8.3 The test results are expressed by the arithmetic mean of the right-angle tearing
load or right-angle tear strength of all specimens. The significant figures of the test
results are two digits or determined as per the product standard.
9 Test Report
The test report shall include the following:
a. The name and number of this Standard;
b. Description of sample type, production date, etc.;
c. The direction of the specimen: If necessary, indicate the thickness of each
specimen or overlapping specimen group, as well as the average thickness and
quantity of the specimen or overlapping specimen group;
d. If an overlapping specimen group is used, it shall be indicated;
e. Test result: If necessary, indicate the test result and standard deviation of a single
specimen;
f. Test date;
g. The cases that the specimens and tests are inconsistent with this Standard or
not specified in this Standard.
