Hardware for furniture -- Cup hinge
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, requirements, test methods,
inspection rules, markings, instructions for use, packaging, transportation,
storage of cup hinges for furniture.
This standard applies to cup hinges for furniture. Other hinges may refer to this
standard.
2 Normative references
The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For
the dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable
to this document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including
all the amendments) are applicable to this standard.

conversion coatings for the light industrial products - Neutral salt spraying
test (NSS)
3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1
Catch device
A device that keeps or attaches a door in a certain position.
Note: The open of catch device does not require auxiliary actions, such as a magnetic stop
OR a mechanical device that automatically closes.
3.2
Damper mechanism
A mechanical device that slowly stops the door from moving.
instructions for use provided.
If no instructions for installation, assembly or adjustment are provided, it shall
install or assemble the cup hinge in a way, that is the most unfavorable for the
cup hinge; meanwhile it shall record it in the inspection report. Cup hinge's
fittings shall be tightened before the test. If there is no manufacturer's special
instruction, the fittings shall, during the test, not be re-tightened. If, for the
purpose of testing the performance of the cup hinge in the worst case, it is
necessary to change the cup hinge device, it shall be recorded in the inspection
report.
The test shall be carried out at an indoor temperature of 15 °C ~ 25 °C. If the
cup hinge contains parts which are made of hygroscopic plastic (such as
polyamide), the cup hinge shall, before the test, be conditioned at a temperature
of (23 ± 5) °C and a relative humidity of (50 ± 5)% for 7 days.
Before the test, it shall thoroughly inspect the cup hinge and its accessories;
record the defects of the cup hinge and its components, to distinguish from the
defects caused by the test.
5.2 Test equipment
Unless otherwise specified, any applicable test device can be used for the test;
the test result does not depend on the device itself.
5.2.1 Loading
In the static load test, the loading speed shall be as slow as possible, to ensure
that the additional dynamic load is negligible. Unless otherwise specified, each
load applied shall be maintained for 10 s ~ 15 s.
In the durability test, the loading speed shall ensure that no dynamic heating
will occur.
Note: The applied force can be replaced by mass. The conversion relationship is that: 10 N is
equivalent to 1 kg.
5.2.2 Accuracy
Unless otherwise specified, use the following measurement accuracy:
- Loading force: ±5% of the rated value;
- Speed: ±5% of the rated value;
- Mass: ±1% of rated value;
- Size: ±1 mm;
The door can be opened and closed manually. The opening and closing time is
3 s ~ 5 s, respectively. At the end of test, unload and inspect it.
5.5.3 Horizontal static load
This test is only applicable to cup hinges, which have a maximum opening angle
of less than 135°.
In the fully open position of the door, apply the load specified in Table A.2 of
Appendix A on the horizontal centerline, which is 100 mm away from the side
of the cup hinge, in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the door, as
shown in Figure 4. The test is carried out 10 times. At the end of test, unload
and inspect it.
5.5.4 Durability
Suspend two weights, each of which has a mass of 1 kg, on the vertical
centerline of each side of the door (see Figure 6).
According to the number of cycles specified in Table A.2 of Appendix A, open
the door. After the maximum opening angle reaches 130°, close the door. Make
it reciprocate back and forth. When the door is in the open position, there shall
be no internal resistance. At the end of test, make inspection.
If the cup hinge does not have a damper mechanism or catch device, during
the test, the door shall be opened and closed slowly. The opening time and
closing time of the door in each cycle is about 3 seconds. The recommended
maximum frequency is 6 times/min.
If the cup hinge has a damper mechanism or catch device, THEN for each
reciprocation, the damper mechanism or catch device shall be able to perform
its function correctly.
6 Inspection rules
6.1 Type inspection items
All items in Chapter 4 of this standard are type inspection items.
6.2 Type inspection shall be carried out in one of the following situations:
a) During formal production, inspection shall be carried out regularly; the
inspection period is generally 1 year;
b) When the raw and auxiliary materials AND their production processes
undergo major changes;
c) When the production is resumed after long term suspension of production;
d) Trial type appraisal of new or old products;
e) When the quality supervision agency proposes type inspection
requirements.
6.3 Sampling rules
Within one inspection cycle, randomly select 12 samples from the recently
produced products, wherein 6 samples are submitted for inspection AND 6 are
retained for reference.
6.4 Inspection procedures
The test is carried out in accordance with the steps which are specified in this
standard.
6.5 Judgment of inspection results
When the results of all inspection items meet the requirements specified in this
standard, the product is determined to be a qualified product. Those failing to
meet the requirements of qualified products are disqualified products.
6.6 Re-inspection rules
If the product fails in the type inspection, it may use the retained standby sample
for re-inspection. It shall follow the provisions of 6.5 to make judgement. In the
inspection report, indicate "qualified in reinspection" or "disqualified in
reinspection".
7 Markings, instructions for use, packaging,
transportation and storage
7.1 Markings
The product marking shall include at least the following content:
a) Product name, specification and model;
b) The number of implemented standard;
c) Inspection certificate and production date;
d) The Chinese name and address of the manufacturer.
7.2 Instructions for use
Product's instruction for use should be compiled with reference to GB 5296.6.
The content shall at least include:
a) Product name, specification model, number of implemented standard,
production date and grade;
b) The name of the main raw and auxiliary materials of the product, as well
as the location of use;
c) Main technical parameters (including maximum opening angle and hinge
cup's diameter, etc.);
d) The type of furniture to which the product is applicable (such as household
or commercial);
e) Technical requirements and considerations for product installation and
adjustment;
f) Product's use method and considerations;
g) Product failure analysis and troubleshooting, maintenance methods.
7.3 Packaging
Products shall be packaged, to prevent bumps, scratches, stains, or damages.
7.4 Transportation and storage
Products shall be stacked flat during transportation and storage. It shall take
necessary protection measures, to prevent pollution, moisture, exposure to
sunlight.
