Safety Signs and Guideline for the Use
1 Scope
This standard specifies the safety signs and guidelines for their installation and use.
This standard is applicable to the public places, industrial enterprises, construction sites
and other sites where are necessary to remind people to notice safety.
2 Normative References
The following normative documents contain provisions which, through reference in this
code, constitute provisions of this code. For dated reference, subsequent amendments
to, or revisions of, any of these publications do not apply. However, all parties coming
to an agreement according to this standard are encouraged to study whether the latest
editions of these documents are applicable. For undated references, the latest edition is
applicable to this standard.

Principles and Requirements
3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions are applicable to this standard.
3.1
Safety sign
Signs used for indicating specific safety information, which is composed of graphic
symbol, safety colour, geometric shape (frame) and characters.
3.2
Safety colour
Colour used for transmitting the meanings of safety information, including four colours
as red, blue, yellow and green
3.3
Prohibition sign
Graphical sign for prohibiting the unsafe acts of people
3.4
Warning sign
Graphical sign used for reminding people to notice the surrounding environment so as to
avoid possible risks
3.5
Direction sign
Graphical sign obliging people to conduct certain action or adopt countermeasures
3.6
Information sign
Graphical sign providing people with certain information (for instance, indicating the
safety facility or site)
3.7
Explanatory sign
Sign providing people with specific prompting information (indicating the safety
classification or protective measures), which is composed of geometrical figure, frame
and characters
3.8
Environmental information sign
Graphical sign containing such information that related to a large area. The code number
of this type of signs: H
3.9
Partial information sign
Graphical sign containing such information that is only related to one certain site, or even
one equipment or part. The code number of this type of signs: J
4 Types of Signs
The safety signs are classified into such main types: prohibition signs, warning signs,
direction signs and information signs.
5 Colour
The colours applied to the safety signs shall be in accordance with the colours specified
in GB 2893.
6 Requirements on Safety Sign Boards
6.1 Mat of sign board
The safety sign boards shall be set with mat. Except for the yellow crispening of warning
sign frames, all the rest frames shall be crispened into a white narrow side as the mat of
safety signs, the mat width shall be 0.025 times of the side length or diameter of the signs.
6.2 Materials of sign boards
The safety sign boards shall be manufactured with solid durable materials and generally
should not be manufactured with such materials that will be out of shape or deteriorate
with water or such flammable materials. The sign boards installed in the work
environment with electric shocking risk shall be manufactured with insulating material.
6.3 Surface quality of sign boards
The sign boards shall be with clear diagram and free from burr, pores or any faulty works
that will influence the application.
7 Model adoption of sign boards (see Appendix A for the
models)
7.1 The Model 6 or 7 will be set at the entrances of the sites and factories.
7.2 The model 5 or 6 will be set at the entrance of workshop, in the plant areas or in
the construction sites.
7.3 Model 4 or 5 will be set in the workshops.
7.4 The partial information sign boards shall be designed with Model 1, 2 or 3.
Wherever in the plant areas or workshops, several more sign boards shall be set when the
viewing distance of the sign boards shall not cover the area of the whole plant or
whole workshop.
8 Installation Height of Sign Board
The installation height of sign boards shall be consistent with the eye height of human as
much as possible. The height of the lower margin of lift type and column type
environmental information sign brands above the ground should not be less than 2m; and
the installation of partial information signs shall be determined according to the specific
circumstances.
