(3.2, 3.3 of 1993-edition; 4.2, 4.3 of this edition);
- Add batch requirements (see 5.1);
- Remove the Ca, Mg content and total mercury content test method (4.6, 4.7 of
1993-edition);
- Add the provisions of type inspection period and type inspection that shall be
done under special circumstances (see 7.3);
- Do not require the sample retention period (5.7 of 1993-edition);
- Increase the solid sodium hydroxide?€?s sampling bags, marking, packaging,
transportation and storage requirements (see 5.3,8.1,8.2.2, 8.3, 8.4).

Sodium hydroxide for industrial use
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the industrial use sodium hydroxide?€?s requirements, sampling,
test methods, inspection rules, marks, packaging, transportation, storage, and safety.
This Standard applies to sodium hydroxide for industrial use.
2 Normative references
The following documents contain provisions which, through reference in this Standard,

7.3 All of the inspection items specified in this Standard are type inspection items. In
which, for IS-IT, IL-IT type sodium hydroxide and sodium chloride, they are the exit-
factory inspection items of type inspection items; the rest are sampling items of type
inspection items. For IS-DT, IS-CT, IL-DT and IL-CT type sodium hydroxide, sodium
carbonate, and sodium chloride, they are the exit-factory inspection items of type
inspection items; the rest are sampling items of type inspection items. If there are
following conditions. the resumption from production shutdown, the production process
has changed significantly (such as materials, process conditions, etc.), contract
requirements, etc., it shall conduct type inspection. Under normal production conditions,
type inspection shall be conducted at least once a month.
7.4 Before sodium hydroxide products are factory-exited, it shall be inspected by the
manufacturing enterprise?€?s quality supervision and inspection department, and attached
with quality certificate. The content includes. manufacturer name, product name, model
specifications, quality indicators, grade, batch number or production date, the
implemented standards. Those sodium hydroxide products that do not meet the
requirements of this Standard must not declare that it complies with this Standard.
7.5 User has the right to conduct inspection, in accordance with this Standard, to the
received sodium hydroxide products, so as to verify if the quality meets the
requirements of this Standard.
7.6 If there is an indicator in inspection results not meeting the requirements of this
Standard, then it shall re-take double representative samples from the packaging unit
for re-inspection. If there still has an indicator in the re-inspection results not meeting
the requirements of this Standard, then the products are deemed as unqualified.
8 Marks, packaging, transportation and storage
8.1 Marks
Marks shall be clearly and firmly indicated on packaging of solid sodium hydroxide
products, including. manufacturing enterprise?€?s name, address, product name,
trademark, implemented standards, model specifications, batch number or production
date, net mass, production license number, and "corrosive" mark specified by GB 190.
Solid sodium hydroxide products shall have mark "avoid rain" specified by GB/T 191.
8.2 Packaging
8.2.1 For solid sodium hydroxide products that are packed in iron-barrels, it shall be in
accordance with GB/T 15915. Net mass of each barrel is (200 ?? 2) kg.
8.2.2 For flake-shaped, granular-shaped, block-shaped and other solid sodium
hydroxide products that are packed in bags, the inner bag should use polyethylene or
polypropylene film bags; the outer bag should use polyethylene or polypropylene bags
(or Fumo bag) or brown paper bags. Net mass of each bag is (25.0 ?? 0.25) kg. It may
also adopt other forms of packaging according to the relevant provisions. Bags and
sealing shall ensure that the products are not contaminated, no leakage, no damage
in normal transport and storage.
8.2.3 For the tank or tank-truck that is specially used to transport the liquid sodium
hydroxide products, the containers must not contaminate the products.
8.3 Transport
During transport, it shall prevent impact. For sodium hydroxide bagged products, it
shall avoid damage, moisture, and pollution. It must not be mixed and transported with
acidic materials.
8.4 Storage
Solid (including flake-shaped, granular-shaped, block-shaped, etc.) sodium hydroxide
products shall be stored in dry, clean warehouse. Liquid sodium hydroxide product
shall be stored in tank. Prevent collisions and contact with acidic materials.
9 Safety
Sodium hydroxide is highly corrosive product. The user has the responsibility to take
appropriate safety and health measures; the contact person shall be equipped with
labour protection equipment such as protective goggles and rubber gloves.
